Women’s Rights & Gender Development (2005-2010)
This project, implemented by IBIS West Africa, focused on empowering women and addressing domestic violence across 75 communities in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region. Through targeted sensitization campaigns, the initiative educated 9,175 women, men, and community stakeholders on the detrimental effects of domestic violence on women’s development. A dedicated counseling platform was established in 15 communities, where 2,014 abused women received support and rehabilitation services. Furthermore, 715 women were encouraged to participate in decision-making processes in Sokode Ando, Klefe, Akoefe, and Ho township, fostering gender inclusion and empowerment.
Women in Politics (2005)
In partnership with the Gender Center, the Strength of Women Foundation (SOW) launched a transformative platform to support women aspiring to parliamentary positions. This initiative enabled 18 aspiring female candidates to present their visions and manifestos to their constituents through radio interviews and public rallies. The project aimed to increase women's representation in politics, culminating in the successful election of two candidates as Members of Parliament for the North Dayi and Agotime Kpetoe constituencies. This program underscored the importance of amplifying women's voices in governance and policy-making.
